PROJECT TEEN INTERVENE
Project Teen Intervene was written and designed to assist the adolescent/teen to identify why they are struggling with an issue, or issues, of substance abuse. It is a behavioral modification short-term treatment program turned into a three session support group. The group is geared towards helping the adolescent or teen identify what might lead them to acting on impulses and helps them resist temptation by teaching alternate stress management techniques. It also teaches goal setting, a review of how to redefine your own choices, and an insight on the constructive steps of staying clean. Group activities relating to discovery on the severity of addictions have been included as studies have shown that children master more by applied learning than by instruction. The accompanying Drug Handbook defines the spectrum of addictive drugs including everything from age-old opiates to current club drugs. It provides the “nicknames” for the substances thereby educating the teen or adolescent on how to identify potentially problematic environments before they are in them. Its focus is zero tolerance, and rebuilding coping skills necessary to confront, work through, and overcome addictions.
